Issue: When opening a binder in Excel desktop, clients may report that they are getting the following error:

Error: 'We're having trouble connecting to the server. Please try again later.'



Cause: Something is blocking Excel from accessing SharePoint where the binder resource is held.

Resolution:

1. Ensure they are using a supported version of Excel and that it is up to date.

2. If opening the binder in Excel Online works fine, it indicates they have sufficient access to SharePoint.

3. The user may test the issue by temporarily disabling any antivirus/firewall or adding an exception for excel.exe software and whitelisting our URLs to resolve the issue.
