Active Admin - Troubleshooting AADSTS50011 Microsoft Sign-In Error for Active Workpapers

Overview:

This article covers the resolution for the AADSTS50011 Microsoft sign-in error customers may encounter when using the Active Workpapers add-in. This error typically occurs due to a mismatch between the redirect URI in the Microsoft platform and the settings configured for the application. This is confirmed to be a Microsoft-related issue and not a fault with our platform.

Symptoms:

  • Error message: AADSTS50011: The redirect URI '<URL>' specified in the request does not match the redirect URIs configured for the application.

  • Affects users attempting to install or access the Active Workpapers add-in via Microsoft AppSource.

Root Cause:

The issue stems from Microsoft’s configuration settings. Specifically, a data pipeline issue in their infrastructure is affecting the region servicing our application. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is running diagnostics to determine mitigation steps.

Resolution:

  1. Confirm the Error:

    • Verify that the customer sees the AADSTS50011 error message and gather any relevant screenshots for documentation purposes.

  2. Instructions for IT Team:

    • Direct the customer’s IT team to follow these steps in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center:

    • Access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
      Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with a Global Administrator or App Administrator account.
      Navigate to Settings > Integrated apps.

    • Get the 'Active Workpapers' App
      In the Microsoft 365 Apps section, search for Active Workpapers.
      Click Get It Now and follow the prompts.

    • Select Apps to Deploy
      Choose any Active Add-Ins you wish to install (e.g., Active Workpapers or Active Ledger & Reporting). Note that options may vary depending on the setup in the customer's tenant.

    • Permissions
      Assign user permissions if needed, or set permissions for the entire organization.
      Accept the permissions for the Active web app and complete the deployment.

To resolve this, please reach out to your internal IT team or Microsoft Office Admins and ask them to follow the steps below:


    Workaround:

    1. Access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
      Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center using a Global Administrator or App Administrator account.
      Navigate to Settings > Integrated apps.

    2. Get the 'Active Workpapers' App
      In the Microsoft 365 Apps section, search for Active Workpapers.
      Click Get It Now and follow the prompts.

      Ensure the Active web app is selected and choose any Active Add-Ins you wish to install (e.g., Active Workpapers or Active Ledger & Reporting).
