The method of installing HowNow Add-Ins depends on the configuration and licencing options of the HowNow application. HowNow can be installed on a terminal server or on a standalone file server (with access from local machines).

Stand-alone Environment

The method of installing HowNow Add-Ins depends on the configuration and licencing options of the HowNow application. Add-Ins can be installed/repaired by a local administrator for a stand-alone HowNow install.

Terminal Server Environment

In a terminal server environment, HowNow can be installed on a separate applications server and run over the network. HowNow can use the Windows logins of the users as their HowNow login credentials, and when configured in this way uses the login of the local profile of the user. All HowNow Add-ins need to be installed on the local machine.

Email Manager and Office add-ins [profile specific]

These two Add-Ins are profile specific and are installed in the individual user’s AppData folder. The Email Manager being profile specific, further simplifies the install/functionality for cloud based users.

As a result, each user will need to install the two Add-Ins individually to be able to use them. In larger environments, or when there are multiple terminal servers, the Add-Ins can be installed automatically via a login script (which will require assistance from local IT).

All other add-ins

All other Add-Ins need to be installed under the administrator account on the terminal server - this in turn, affects all users that access the terminal server. These Add-Ins either involve system-wide changes to the registry, or are installed in the universally-accessible system file locations.
