Overview: HowNow X requires a component (Microsoft SQL Server Native Client) that needs administrator permissions for installation. This guide outlines the necessary steps for both users and administrators to successfully install HowNow X in such environments.
Why a Two-Part Installation?
HowNow X needs the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client to function correctly. Installing this client typically requires Windows Administrator permissions. If users on your network are not administrators of their own computers, the HowNow X installation must be performed in two distinct parts.
User Installation - HowNow X Application
This part can be performed by the user as it does not require administrator permissions.
Download HowNow X:
Run the Installer:
Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts.
Administrator Action - Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
This part must be performed by an IT administrator or someone with administrator privileges on the user's machine.
Download the SQL Server Native Client:
Administrators need to download the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client MSI file.

Deploy/Install the Client:
Install or deploy the downloaded MSI file to all relevant user machines.
After Installation
Once both the HowNow X application and the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client are installed, users should be able to launch and log in to HowNow X without issues.
Troubleshooting Installation Errors
If users encounter an error message while trying to run the standalone HowNow X installer, an administrator can try the following steps on the user's machine:
Locate the Installer: Find the downloaded HowNow X Standalone installer file (e.g., in the Downloads folder).
Run as Administrator: Right-click on the installer file and select "Run as administrator."
Enter Admin Credentials: If prompted, enter the administrator account username and password.
Proceed with Installation Follow the installation prompts as usual.
Adjust Installation Path (If Necessary):
When you reach the screen to choose the installation path, it might default to a path under the administrator's user profile (e.g.,
C:\Users\[AdministratorLoginName]\...
).Important: You must change this path. Replace the administrator's login name in the path with the actual user's account folder name. For example, if the user's Windows account folder is
JaneDoe
, the path should be similar toC:\Users\JaneDoe\AppData\Local\Programs\HowNowX
(the exact path may vary).
Complete Installation: Continue and finalize the installation.
